The Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Marketing to lead on the development, implementation and ongoing management of all activities in Defence. You will lead a talented team of marketing professionals, ensuring that all marketing efforts align with the company’s goals and objectives and effectively promote our brand. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong background experiences in both traditional and digital marketing.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership

  • Manage a team of 10 marketers across digital and events, building a high-performing marketing function, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Set clear performance goals and provide regular feedback and coaching.
  • Build and main strong relationships with key stakeholders in a matrix organisation, including senior management, sales teams, and external partners.

Digital Membership

  • Define a cross-channel marketing strategy for our new Membership product launching in January 2025 (including SEO/SEM, social media, email marketing, print and direct mail).
  • Collaborate closely with product, sales, and customer experience teams to execute on the strategy and align marketing campaigns in Microsoft Dynamics to capture and convert leads outside of our event periods.
  • Leverage personalisation to increase member acquisition and retention (in line with business targets).
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, market dynamics, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities for differentiation and innovation.
  • Manage digital marketing budgets, allocating resources strategically to maximise ROI and achieve business targets.

 Campaign Management

  • Work closely with our Central Marketing function to shape the campaign strategy for Defence, ensuring that both live and digital goals are captured in the plan.
  • Implement Pardot to automate marketing campaigns during the event period.
  • Manage a team of campaign marketers to executive on our central marketing strategy for live events.

Brand Management

  • Take ownership of our event website and brand management, including DSEI, DSEI Japan, UDT, ITEC and APEX, working closely with our Event Directors.
  • Ensure consistency in brand messaging across all channels and marketing materials.
  • Oversee the development and execution of branding initiatives to enhance brand awareness and loyalty.
  • Manage a brand team to develop go-to-market strategies and promotional plans for new product launches.

Marketing Operations and Analytics

  • Establish event and digital KPIs to measure the success of marketing campaigns and initiatives.
  • Utilise data analytics and insights to continuously refine marketing strategies, optimise campaigns, and drive performance improvements.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours:

  • A degree or master’s in marketing, business administration, or a related field is desirable.
  • Proven track record of success in marketing leadership roles in events and digital is essential.
  • Prior experience in developing and launching membership products is preferable.
  • Proficiency in marketing automation platforms, CRM systems and analytics tools or similar, such as Pardot, Microsoft Dynamics are desirable.
  • Experience in managing and leading teams across a matrix organisation.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and initiatives.
  • Experience in developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across digital and traditional channels.
